A thermal analysis may be run in anticipation of a coupled structural analysis with bodies that are to be joined by a joint or other connection. Joints do not support heat transfer. This video illustrates two ways to include heat transfer between faces that are separated by a gap. One is with thermal coupling, and the other is with contact conductance and a large pinball radius. Note that if contact conductance is used, it may be preferred to not couple thermal and structural models at the Model cell so that connections can be defined independently. If you are interested in simulations of rocket engine nozzles, this video is for you. I teach you how to perform a detailed CFD (fluid dynamics), FEA (structural analysis) as well as combined thermo-structural interactions. This means taking the load from a CFD simulation and importing it into the structural analysis. Pressure loads are also applied using isentropic flow relations for a rocket nozzle. Multiple ANSYS tools are required to carry out the simulation namely: 1) Face Split 2) Geometry Slicing 3) MultiZone meshing A pre-stressed harmonic analysis is also performed here. A harmonic load is simply a load which is time-dependant (i.e. acceleration with a frequency). How to perform a buckling analysis with thermal expansion in ANSYS Workbench Mechanical

When thermal expansion causes compressive stresses, structural buckling can result. This video explores three ways to analyze buckling caused by thermal expansion, using a simple model: (1) Linear-based Eigenvalue Buckling Analysis, (2) Nonlinear Buckling with Static Analysis, and (3) Nonlinear-based Eigenvalue Buckling Analysis. Unlike linear-based eigenvalue buckling, the nonlinear-based eigenvalue buckling approach requires at least one load in the buckling analysis, and the resulting load multipliers scale the load applied in the buckling analysis only. Ultimate buckling temperature comes from the temperature applied in the nonlinear static analysis plus the scaled temperature change in the eigenvalue analysis. This video illustrates with a temperature load in a static structure.
