A Computational Design Tool for Compliant Mechanisms

We present a computational tool for designing compliant mechanisms. Our method takes as input a conventional, rigidly-articulated mechanism defining the topology of the compliant design. This input can be both planar or spatial, and we support a number of common joint types which, whenever possible, are automatically replaced with parameterized flexures. As the technical core of our approach, we describe a number of objectives that shape the design space in a meaningful way, including trajectory matching, collision avoidance, lateral stability, resilience to failure, and minimizing motor torque. Optimal designs in this space are obtained as solutions to an equilibrium-constrained minimization problem that we solve using a variant of sensitivity analysis. We demonstrate our method on a set of examples that range from simple four-bar linkages to full-fledged animatronics, and verify the feasibility of our designs by manufacturing physical prototypes. I found some great software at SolarDesignTool.com - The best part is that it's FREE for 30 days. I used the free trial to design my own system and create a PDF Permitting Package to present to my building inspector and to my local power company. The document lays out all the details of the system. That lets the building inspector know that everything will be up to code and the Power Utility knows that things will be safe and correct. The software also performs plenty of "solar math" in the background automatically. For example, you simply punch in your address and historical weather data is collected. Tell it the distance from your junction box to your disconnect, and it automatically selects the correct gauge of wire to use. Neat software. If you are designing your own system, definitely use it to check your own work. If you need to present information to an Authority Having Jurisdiction, use it to create a professional permitting document about your project.

Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) are responsible for the process operational safety within safe limits through the monitoring of values and parameters when there are conditions of risk. The challenge in the deployment of SIS is that the design procedure is complex and not well known, and there are many calculation and risk analysis methods accepted by the safety standards. The motivation for this paper was to automate and simplify the design of SIS by reducing the number of people involved in manual tasks that may cause errors, standardizing and simplifying the procedures and calculations required, promoting an increase in efficiency and reduction of costs involved. The objective is to present and demonstrate a SIS analysis and design tool (SISTool) created, with web-based programming, capable of performing a study of the risks and failures of an industrial process and calculating an adequate value for the selection of the Safety Integrity Level (SIL) required for the implementation of the safety system. The SISTool is innovative by combining in the same environment all the procedures required for the analysis and design of SIS.

Reengineering complex software systems represents a non-trivial process. As a fundamental technique in software engineering, reengineering includes (a) reverse engineering the as-is system design, (b) identifying a set of transformations to the design, and (c) applying these transformations. While methods a) and c) are widely supported by existing tools, identifying possible transformations to improve architectural quality is not well supported and, therefore, becomes increasingly complex in aged and large software systems. In this paper we present a novel visual analysis and design tool to support software architects during reengineering tasks in identifying a given software's design and in visually planning quality-improving changes to its design. The tool eases estimating effort and change impact of a planned reengineering. A prototype implementation shows the proposed technique's feasibility. Three case studies conducted on industrial software systems demonstrate usage and scalability of our approach.

It could be a website, a software component, a business process, an app, or any number of other things. You represent a system with a rectangle. The next aspect of Use Case Diagrams are actors. An actor is going to be someone or something that uses our system to achieve a goal, and they're represented by a stick figure. Use Cases are elements that really start to describe what the system does. They're depicted with an oval shape and they represent an action that accomplishes some sort of task within the system. The final element in Use Case Diagrams are relationships, which show how actors and use cases interact with each other. An Efficient way of doing or achieving something. • What is Test Design Technique? A test design technique is used to select a good set of tests from the all possible tests for a given system. • Why we need to use Test Design Techniques? Exhaustive Testing is not possible, so we need to use Test Design Techniques in order to reduce the size of the input. Exhaustive Testing is a Test approach in which the test suite comprises all combination of input values and preconditions. Exhaustive Testing is not recommendable due to Time and Budget considerations. • Categories of Test Design Techniques? Categories of Dynamic Test Design Techniques i Specification based or Black box Techniques a Equivalence Partitioning b Boundary Value Analysis c Decision Table Testing d State Transition Testing e Use Case Testing Etc... ii Structure based or White box Techniques a Statement Testing and coverage b Decision Testing and Coverage c Condition Testing, Multi Condition Testing etc... iii Experience based Techniques a Error Guessing b Exploratory Testing -------------------------------------------------- 3 Black box Test Design Techniques a Equivalence Partitioning b Boundary Value Analysis c Decision Table Testing d State Transition Testing e Use Case Testing -------------------------------------------------- a Equivalence Partitioning • It can be applied at any level of testing - Unit, Integration, System and Acceptance Testing • In Equivalence Partitioning, inputs to the Software are divided into groups that are expected to exhibit similar behavior. • Equivalence Partitions/Classes can be found for both valid data and invalid data. -------------------------------------------------- b Boundary Value Analysis (BVA • The maximum and minimum values of a partition are its boundary values. • Behavior at edge of each equivalence partition is more likely to be incorrect than behavior within the partition. • Boundary value analysis can be applied at all Test levels(Unit, Integration, System and Acceptance Testing. -------------------------------------------------- c Decision Table Testing • The decision tables are good way to capture system requirements that contain logical conditions. • It may be applied for all situations when the action of the software depends on logical decisions. -------------------------------------------------- d State Transition Testing • In State transition Testing Test cases are designed to execute valid and invalid state transitions. • A System (Application Under Test may exhibit a different response on current conditions or previous history. -------------------------------------------------- e Use Case Testing • In Use Case Testing Test Cases are designed to execute User Scenarios or Business Scenarios. • A Use Case describes interactions between actors, including users and the system. • A Use case usually has a mainstream scenario and sometimes alternative scenarios. --------------------------------------------------
