In this independent SAP payroll evaluation, we review the SAP ERP HCM and payroll system in order to identify payroll software strengths, weaknesses, capabilities and differentiation when compared to payroll and HR software competitors such as Oracle Fusion HCM, Infor HCM, Workday and Ultimate Software. We examine the SAP payroll application advantages such as the strong global payroll feature sets, vertical market functionality for 26 industries, the multifunctional shared-service framework, a mature ecosystem, HANA analytics engine, (SuccessFactors) talent management software and vendor managed integration with ERP software and other applications. We also explore SAP payroll disadvantages such as compensation management, complex and lengthy deployments, high total cost of ownership and new fees associated with hybrid and cloud HCM deployments. We look at how the cloud payroll application which began with SuccessFactors is next in line for companies leveraging the Employee Central product line. Finally, we offer our opinion of where SAP payroll software best fits, and where it doesn't fit.
