02:23
Canada’s natural resources have been the foundation of our economy since the nation’s earliest beginnings and will continue to drive our economic prosperity into the future. Yet despite the importance of the sector to our economy there remain a number of widespread misconceptions about the forest product, metal and mineral, agriculture and energy industries. In the Voice of Canadian Businesses’ first feature chat, our Senior Vice President of Policy, Warren Everson, talks with the Honourable David Emerson, Former Minister for International Trade, on the role natural resources play in the Canadian economy. Mr. Emerson is the Chair of The Partnership for Resource Trade, a new initiative that seeks to set the record straight about the importance and impact of Canada’s resource industries. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce is a member of the partnership, which brings together individuals and businesses from across all sectors of the economy. how powerful is canada ? Canada is the second largest country in world, after Russia. However, most of their land is uninhabited Arctic tundra. As a result, the entire country has a lower population than California. So how powerful is Canada? But despite their comparatively smaller status, Canada has some pretty enormous friends. So how powerful is Canada? the new daily show is committed to answering the smart, inquisitive questions we have about life, society, politics and anything else happening in the news. It's a place where curiosity rules and together we'll get a clearer understanding of this crazy world we live in.

Canada Must Promote Its Natural Resources (w/ Cody Battershill, Canada Action)

23:07
The world needs natural resources. That is according to Cody Battershill of Canada Action. He says as stewards of the environment, no other exporting country can match Canada’s protection standards. He argues manufacturers are going to buy the resources from someone, so it might as well be use because of our environmental record. He goes on to discuss Alberta’s oil sands and refutes the claim that it is a climate bomb. His figures says the entire oil sands industry contributes less than 0.15 per cent of the global greenhouse emissions. --- Simon Fraser University’s Centre for Dialogue presents Conversations That Matter. CSR in Canada, Part Four: Natural Resources Management

02:58
Visit http://3blmedia.com/theCSRfeed for the latest sustainability and CSR headlines. Interview with Lorraine Smith, Consultant for Canadian Business for Social Responsibility. Part 4. Transcript: I think one of the key things Canadians have to bare in mind and any others thinking of doing business here is that the economy here still relies largely on resources or raw materials, agriculture is still a huge part. Canada exports more pulses than any other country, which makes you wonder what is a pulse, peas, chick peas, beans and lentils. In fact, a huge source of protein from the planet a large percentage of which comes from Canada. And we export the vast majority that we produce. Those types of economic realities are in fact, critical to understanding sustainability here. It speaks to land use, soil preservation, water use, communities that are affected by agricultures. I think sometimes the dialogue of corporate social responsibility is too focused on corporate and loses the social responsibility. And in a country like Canada you very quickly zoom into the grassroots whether it is mining metals and minerals or oil and gas or agricultures. It is tempting to see things like, well Canada has a lot of raw materials or a lot of resource based economic activity. That is so different from china which is ramping up its manufacturing like crazy and making lots of goods. Well, note how connected these things are in at least two major ways. One, it is difficult to make machinery that makes things without steel. And steel is made from several different components, many of which are mined in large part in Canada. Not coincidentally, in large part China is interested in some of Canada's metals and minerals. The work is taking place here in Canada. So it is important to realize that no manufacturing happens without steel and a lot of the steel and/or components of steel still come from Canada. And there was another piece to that. China. The other important aspect is the extremely rapid growth of the Chinese economy has also redirected a lot of attention towards countries that still have a lot of resources available. So China, for example, has expressed a lot of interest in a company called Potash which has its large operations in Saskatchewan in Canada's prairies and is critical to the global agriculture scene today. So we cannot divorce the large growth of manufacturing in China, from the resource economy in Canada. And we have to note Canada has lots of consumers, lots of resources, lots of more consumer goods focused economic activity as well. So it is all connected and Canada is sort of a micro-cosm of the whole supply chain I would say. The CSR Report is produced for 3BL Media by Video4Good: http://www.video4good.com

Trudeau's Natural Resources Minister's only interest is "green technologies"

05:03
Sheila Gunn Reid of TheRebel.Media introduces us to the federal Liberal government’s new natural resources minister: The Honourable James Gordon Carr. If you haven't heard of him before, don't feel bad. Neither had the Calgary-based Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC). They had to google him, too. So, who is he? Carr is the new Liberal MP for the Winnipeg riding of South Centre - and he's green, really green. Carr has been endorsed by the environmentalist think tank GreenPac, and he has referred to Canada as a "colossal fossil" regarding the federal government’s approach to climate change. Championing a national energy strategy, he once praised the efforts of disgraced former Alberta premier Alison Redford. That's troubling, because Carr is the minister responsible for pipelines, mining, exploration, minerals and extraction. At first glance, his appointment is hardly confidence-inspiring for those with ties to the mining world and to the oil and gas industry. Pakistani natural resources more than Canada,Saudi arab, Iran and Iraq.

03:13
Pakistani natural resources more than Canada,Saudi arab, Iran and Iraq.Natural gas production is at a high level in Pakistan. Estimated reserves are 885.3 billion cubic meters (as of January 2009). Gas fields are expected to last for another 20 years. The Sui gas field is the largest, accounting for 26% of Pakistan's gas production. Daily production is 19 million cubic meters a day. Under the barren mountains of Balochistan and the sands of Sindh, there are untouched oil and gas reserves. Coal reserves are estimated at 175 billion tons. This would equate to 618 billion barrels of crude oil. When compared to oil reserves his is more than twice the amount of the top four countries.
