Understanding Short Selling | by Wall Street Survivor

What is short selling? Join our March Trading Contest for your chance at over $8000 in prizes: https://app.wallstreetsurvivor.com/registerto/MarchMarketMoversReport?utm_source=MarketMoversReport&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=MarchContest Most people think of investing as buying a stock (or other asset) and making money when its price goes up - but it’s also possible to make a profit when a stock price goes down. This process is called short selling (or shorting). Short selling isn’t all peaches and cream. There are opportunities for high returns, but as usual, these come with high risks. The big risk here is that there is no limit to your losses. When you buy a stock, you can only lose the amount that you invested. But when you short, your losses are infinite because there is theoretically no end to how high a stock’s price can rise. Short selling isn’t for everyone. It requires a lot of time and research, and a desire for high risks and high returns. Short selling is primarily used for speculator looking to make a profit when the market goes down or investing looking to hedge their position. Intro and Getting Stock Price Data - Python Programming for Finance p.1

09:34
Welcome to a Python for Finance tutorial series. In this series, we're going to run through the basics of importing financial (stock) data into Python using the Pandas framework. From here, we'll manipulate the data and attempt to come up with some sort of system for investing in companies, apply some machine learning, even some deep learning, and then learn how to back-test a strategy. I assume you know the fundamentals of Python. If you're not sure if that's you, click the fundamentals link, look at some of the topics in the series, and make a judgement call. If at any point you are stuck in this series or confused on a topic or concept, feel free to ask for help and I will do my best to help. https://pythonprogramming.net https://twitter.com/sentdex https://www.facebook.com/pythonprogramming.net/ https://plus.google.com/+sentdex

How the rich get richer – money in the world economy | DW Documentary

42:25
Exploding real estate prices, zero interest rate and a rising stock market – the rich are getting richer. What danger lies in wait for average citizens? For years, the world’s central banks have been pursuing a policy of cheap money. The first and foremost is the ECB (European Central Bank), which buys bad stocks and bonds to save banks, tries to fuel economic growth and props up states that are in debt. But what relieves state budgets to the tune of hundreds of billions annoys savers: interest rates are close to zero. The fiscal policies of the central banks are causing an uncontrolled global deluge of money. Experts are warning of new bubbles. In real estate, for example: it’s not just in German cities that prices are shooting up. In London, a one-bed apartment can easily cost more than a million Euro. More and more money is moving away from the real economy and into the speculative field. Highly complex financial bets are taking place in the global casino - gambling without checks and balances. The winners are set from the start: in Germany and around the world, the rich just get richer. Professor Max Otte says: "This flood of money has caused a dangerous redistribution. Those who have, get more." But with low interest rates, any money in savings accounts just melts away. Those with debts can be happy. But big companies that want to swallow up others are also happy: they can borrow cheap money for their acquisitions. Coupled with the liberalization of the financial markets, money deals have become detached from the real economy. But it’s not just the banks that need a constant source of new, cheap money today. So do states. They need it to keep a grip on their mountains of debt. It’s a kind of snowball system. What happens to our money? Is a new crisis looming? The film 'The Money Deluge' casts a new and surprising light on our money in these times of zero interest rates. _______ Exciting, powerful and informative – DW Documentary is always close to current affairs and international events. The 2008 Financial Crisis: Crash Course Economics #12

Today on Crash Course Economics, Adriene and Jacob talk about the 2008 financial crisis and the US Goverment's response to the troubles. So, all this starts with home mortgages, and the use of mortgages as an investment instrument. For years, it seemed like the US housing market would go up and up. Like a bubble or something. It turns out it was a bubble. But not the good kind. And the government response was...interesting. Anyway, why are you reading this? Watch the video! How to Negotiate When Buying a Car

02:49
Watch more How to Buy a Car videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/436886-How-to-Negotiate-When-Buying-a-Car Step 1: Determine the amount Question your credit union about a loan before talking to a dealer to compare rates. Find out how much cash your credit union will approve. This helps you limit the price range of cars you look at and test drive. Step 2: Research invoice price Go online to research the invoice price -- the amount the dealer pays the manufacturer -- before starting negotiations. While you're at it, check out any rebate information and hidden incentives for the dealer. You gain the advantage by doing your homework. Tip The minimum dealer profit is usually around 3 percent. Step 3: Examine four-square numbers Don't be fooled by the dealer's four-square information -- a worksheet the dealer will present you with when you sit down to negotiate that maps out purchase price, down payment, monthly payment, and trade-in value. Doing your own math prevents them from fudging numbers. Determine the interest rate and loan term before you arrive at the dealership to accurately project your monthly payments. Step 4: Know what monthly payment means Resist negotiating based on monthly payments alone, without contemplating the swelling interest rate or stretched loan term. Monthly payment results from the down payment, loan term, and interest rate. Step 5: Play the game Play the game as well as they do. Be surprised that they can't give you a better offer, even if the terms and price are reasonable, just to see if you can move them. They want to create pressure to close you now, but you have time that they don't -- use it. Tip Don't tell one dealer what another's quote was. You need their respect -- demonstrate that you deserve it. Step 6: Drive the bargain Tell the salesperson you will discuss an acceptable trade-in price for your old car, but first must have a satisfactory price on the new car. Drive the bargain when negotiating, impressing upon them you can sell it yourself for more than they'll pay you. Step 7: Prepare to walk Prepare to walk out if you are not handled respectfully or the price is too outrageous. In fact, with some due diligence, cut to the chase and play hardball -- tell the dealer your price and expect a yes or no. Step 8: Expect fees Expect an onslaught of fees and extras just when you think you're done. Some fees are unavoidable, but many can be easily bargained down or avoided. Virtually all extras are unnecessary and overpriced. Throughout the negotiation process, use your knowledge and the research you've done to get the best deal. Did You Know? Preston Tucker started a new car company on the back of his 1948 Tucker model. This company manufactured just 51 cars before failing in 1949.

Money and Finance: Crash Course Economics #11

10:36
So, we've been putting off a kind of basic question here. What is money? What is currency? How are the two different. Well, not to give away too much, but money has a few basic functions. It acts as a store of value, a medium of exchange, and as a unit of account. Money isn't just bills and coins. It can be anything that meets these three criteria. In US prisons, apparently, pouches of Mackerel are currency. Yes, mackerel the fish. Paper and coins work as money because they're backed by the government, which is an advantage over mackerel. So, once you've got money, you need finance. We'll talk about borrowing, lending, interest, and stocks and bonds. Also, this episode features a giant zucchini, which Adriene grew in her garden. So that's cool. Today we’re going to take a look at investing in IPOs or initial profit offerings. Investing in IPOs is something that people are often attracted to because they think that company could be the next Google, it could be the next Facebook or the next Microsoft, and as those companies increase their value in the future, you’re able to make money from your investment. Let’s take a look at some IPOs and I’ll share with you my own personal insights and wisdom about trading or investing in IPOs and maybe it’ll give you another perspective, and then you can make your own decisions. IPO basics. An IPO is an initial public offering. Which means you get to purchase a stock early on, when that company is new to the public market. Basically, you can’t buy a piece of a company if it’s a private company, but if it’s an IPO or public, you can get a little piece of that company before it gets to stage 10 as far as profitability goes. If the company is just starting, then you’re able to get it at level 1 or 2, other than waiting until it’s already a mature company, allowing you to capitalize on that growth from the beginning. Companies do an IPO in order to raise money, rather than getting a loan from a bank and having to pay the bank an interest rate. Instead what they do is get money from investors by doing an IPO. And then they can use that money to grow their business. What’s the big problem with most IPOs? Most IPOs are horrible investments. The problem is that when a company is just starting and it begins to grow, things start to change, and the company needs to figure things out. When a company does an IPO, there are a lot of new tasks that need to be done, there are a lot of new headaches that come, and it needs to figure those things out, and it’s kind of like a deer trying to stand up for the first time. The company is just trying to find its footing because it’s going to that next stage and level. So the growth of the company is on shaky ground. That's why you need to be careful when investing in IPOs. Usually, the enthusiasm pushes those stocks initially, sometimes to extreme valuations and higher prices, and if you’re able to get in at the right time and get profits at the right time, you can definitely capitalize and make a great deal of money if your timing is correct. But that doesn’t happen to every IPO or every single company. If the IPO is really good, if it’s a strong company, you don’t need to get in it the first day, week, month or even the first year. It takes one to two years for companies to digest things and start moving up. So there’s no need to rush into IPOs. In this video, we’re going to take a look at some recent IPOs and evaluate how they’ve done in the past, and how you should be looking at investing in an IPO. It spans over 60 countries and will cost over a trillion dollars. The plan is to make it easier for the world to trade with China, by funding roads, railways, pipelines, and other infrastructure projects in Asia and Africa. China is loaning trillions of dollars to any country that's willing to participate and it's been a big hit with the less democratic countries in the region. This makes the BRI a risky plan as well. But China is pushing forward because its goals are not strictly economic, they're also geopolitical. To truly understand the international conflicts and trends shaping our world you need a big-picture view. The truth is that global inequality is tumbling. Yes, the rich are getting richer—but the poor are getting richer faster. And what’s driving that process? The market. Look at the most basic measures: Literacy. Longevity. Infant mortality. Calorie intake. Height. More and more people are being lifted out of poverty. I think of the changes just in my lifetime. When I was born, in 1971, an American worker had to earn a month’s salary to be able to afford a TV set. Now, it’s two days. In 1971, fewer than half of girls worldwide completed at least primary education. Now, it’s more than 90 percent. In 1971, a stationary car emitted more pollution than a car moving at full speed today. Go a little further back. In the seventeenth century, the most powerful man in the world was Louis XIV of France. Every night, he’d have 40 dishes prepared for his dinner, and he’d pick the one he felt like. Think about it: A receptionist today can stop off at a store on her way home and have not only a wider choice than that king, but a fresher one and a healthier one. We all live better than Louis XIV. What has caused that miracle? Not any UN development program. Not any government aid scheme. What caused it was the market. The most rapid falls in poverty are happening in countries that are joining the global trading system. Compare growth rates in free-trading Colombia and protectionist Venezuela; or in free-trading Vietnam and protectionist Laos; or in free-trading Bangladesh and protectionist Pakistan. It’s the same story every time. China after 1979, India after 1991. You remove barriers to trade. Prices fall. Your people no longer have to work every hour just to afford food and basic commodities. They have time to invent and make and buy and sell other things. The whole economy is stimulated. Poverty falls. OK, you might say, so maybe capitalism works; maybe people are better off. But isn’t there a cost? Doesn’t it make us more materialistic? Doesn’t it make us greedier? If by “greed” you mean a desire for material wealth, that’s part of the human condition. It’s in our DNA or, if you prefer, it’s in our fallen nature. Under any system—socialism, communism, fascism, absolute monarchy, theocracy—people want more stuff. The unique quality of capitalism is that it structures the incentives so that the way to succeed—the way to be “greedy,” if you insist on using that vocabulary—is to offer a service to the people around you. Under every other system, you get on by sucking up to those in power: commissars, or kings, or dictators. But under a free market system, you get on by offering consumers something they want. How Robinhood Makes Money

09:01
Robinhood, an investing app valued at over $5 billion, says it's trying to "democratize America's financial system" by making investing accessible to the little guy with free trades. It's an eye-popping valuation for a financial company with opaque metrics and plenty of competition. The young company had its share of missteps as well, prompting questions of whether or not it can handle primetime. Robinhood has faced criticism for business practices that allow it to offer free trading. It also botched the rollout of a checking and savings account feature in late 2018, garnering concern from regulators. But the company's incredible growth and popularity with younger investors – more than 6 million users by the end of 2018 – means it could be a major player in banking moving forward. » Subscribe to CNBC: http://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBC About CNBC: From 'Wall Street' to 'Main Street' to award winning original documentaries and Reality TV series, CNBC has you covered. personal finance 101, personal finance basics, and fundamentals

01:22:46
personal finance 101, personal finance basics, and fundamentals. personal finance is the science of handling money. it involves all financial decisions and activities of an individual or household – the practices of earning, saving, investing and spending. matters of personal finance include the purchasing of financial products, like credit cards, life and home insurance, mortgages and of course various investments and investment vehicles. banking is also considered a part of personal finance, including checking and savings accounts and 21st century online or mobile payment services like paypal and venmo. all individual financial activities fall under the purview of personal finance; personal financial planning generally involves analyzing your current financial position, predicting short-term and long-term needs and executing a plan to fulfill those need within individual financial constraints. it depends on one's expenses, income, living requirements and individual goals and desires. among the most important aspects of personal finance are: assessing expected cash flow, buying insurance, calculating and filing taxes, savings and investment, and retirement planning. as a specialized field, personal finance is a fairly recent development, though colleges and schools have taught aspects of it as "home economics" or "consumer economics" since the early 1900s. the field was initially disregarded by male economists, as "home economics" appeared to be the purview of home-making women. however, more recently economists have repeatedly stressed widespread education in matters of personal finance as integral to microeconomics and the overall economy. market theory and practice are largely guided by assuming the presence of the invisible hand: the idea that all consumers in a market economy will act rationally, or in their own self-interest. in theory, this makes market fluctuations predictable and provides assurance that their movements have been in the interest of the consumer. however, scholars and behavioral economists in the late 20th and 21st centuries began to question that assumption, arguing that consumers actually act irrationally as a result of under-education in a more complicated and less comprehensible economy. many consumers simply do not have the information to make the most rational financial decisions for themselves, or they are manipulated by circumstance or misinformation to perceive a decision as being more rational than it actually is.

19. Investment Banks

01:11:19
Financial Markets (2011) (ECON 252) Professor Shiller characterizes investment banking by contrasting it to consulting, commercial banking, and securities trading. Then, in order to see the essence of investment banking, he reviews some of the principles that John Whitehead, the former chairman of Goldman Sachs, has formulated. These principles are the basis for a discussion of the substantial power that investment bankers have, and their role in society. Government regulation of these powerful investment banks has been a thorny issue for many years, and especially so now since they played a significant role in world financial crisis of the 2000s. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Collection agencies are the biggest scam. I've seen these companies ruined lots of families lives by simply lying to them about paying a bill. the truth is that a collection account is negative on your report and paying the account is equally as bad because they will not remove the account, as a matter of fact, this will restart the timeframe in which an account remains on your report. A collection account showing up as paid is still negative as the credit scoring models are designed to pick that up as a negative account. this is still a negative reflection on your paying habits and finance companies just don't trust that. Taking My Tesla Model 3 to CarMax - Guess How Much They Offered?

04:24
Check out my latest video "Tesla Model Y True Cost Calculator" here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3474vclpdE --~-- CarMax had never seen a Tesla Model 3 before I took mine there. Get these updates in your inbox at https://teslanomics.co/join I'm a big fan of numbers, and in terms of car ownership, there are none more important than depreciation. Some cars depreciate upwards of 20% from the moment you drive them off the lot. So exactly 1 day after taking home my Tesla Model 3 I thought it would be fun to find out EXACTLY how much money I lost. I know some of you will argue I could sell it for more because of the scarcity, YOUR'E RIGHT, however, for all other cars, this is not true. SO I thought this would be fun to find out what CarMax would offer. What did you think of the result? Was it higher or lower than you expected? Leave me a comment and let me know. // New here? (wikipedia) The Tesla Model 3 is a mid-size all-electric four-door luxury sedan manufactured and sold by Tesla, Inc.[1] According to Tesla officials, the standard Model 3 delivers an EPA-rated all-electric range of 220 miles (350 km) and the long-range model delivers 310 miles (500 km).[7] The Model 3 has a minimalist dashboard with only a center-mounted LCD touchscreen.[11] Within a week of unveiling the Model 3 in 2016, Tesla said, they had taken 325,000 reservations for the car, more than triple the number of Model S sedans sold by the end of 2015. These reservations represent potential sales of over US$14 billion.[12][13] By August 2017, there were 455,000 net reservations, and an average of 1,800 reservations were being added per day.[14][15] Limited production of the Model 3 began in mid-2017, with the first production vehicle rolling off the assembly line on July 7, 2017,[16][17][18] and the official launch and delivery of the first 30 cars on July 28.[19] In October, Tesla produced 145 Model 3s, and in November, that number increased to 345, bringing the total produced up to 712.[20] At that time, Tesla's target for making 5,000 vehicles per week was March 2018[21][22] but by early 2018, that was extended to the end of June.[23] One of the unique features of the Model 3 is the claim that it carries full self-driving hardware to be optionally enabled at a future date.[24][25][26] The Model 3 was codenamed Tesla BlueStar in the original business plan in 2007.[35][36] The name Model 3, originally stylized as "Model ☰", was announced on Musk's Twitter account on July 16, 2014,[37] however, the intended name was Model E that was abandoned due to Ford's trademark on the name; Musk wanted the three current models to spell SEX, but settled with "S3X".[38] In early 2017, after trademark opposition from Adidas,[39] the triplicate horizontal-bar stylization was abandoned and changed to a numeric "3".[40] The company plans for the Model 3 are part of Tesla's three-step strategy to start with a high-price vehicle and move progressively towards lower-cost vehicles, while the battery and electric drivetrain were improved and paid for through the sales of the Roadster, Model S, and Model X vehicles.[41] ## Ref Clips Howard Dean Scream - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkzHHaAJRqA Stewie Say What - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzT_dzYaJno Bill & Ted - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bp6gaB-YmVA ## Music by Epidemic Sound
