Exchanging Money in Myanmar

03:11
http://grrrltraveler.com/countries/asia/myanmar/dealing-with-currency-in-myanmar-burma/ I think one of the hot topics with anyone interested in traveling to Myanmar is money. "No, sorry" she leaned, sliding my hundred dollar back to me with a polite smile. "It is marked". I didn't know what she meant. I had tried to get the freshest and newest looking dollars possible. She pointed to a marking on the back of the bill. There it was. Someone had discretely stamped it as some type of authorization, similar to the way American sales people like to hold up a fresh bill to the light to examine it's authenticity before striping it with a highlighter to see if affects counterfeit paint. Who turns away a hundred dollar bill? I'm sure it's heartbreaking on both ends. Myanmar's corrupt currency history Although I'd heard about U.S. bills being rejected for slight misdemeanors, it still seemed kinda nutty that a developing country would reject a hundred dollar bill. At the time, I didn't know their history with currency. In earlier days, the government used to mess with the people. They'd change the currency on them. If they felt too many people were getting rich, they'd announce that the currencies of the highest denomination — like the hundred dollar bill-- would be taken out of circulation. Hundred dollar bills lost their value. All that money was lost. The government would also change their own currency denominations based on whim, like a leader's lucky number. So eventually that the Burmese realized the one currency whose value couldn't easily be changed on whim was the American dollar. Distrusting of the government and banks, many Burmese withdrew their money and started keeping their American dollars in large books, to keep their dollars pressed, safe and pristine. Today, many Burmese still prefer to safeguard their money in their homes. But the reason why we went here was because it was close to the airport and we felt that it was easier to get their if we lived nearby. so a busy day after going by boat ( wich splashed and kept us soaking wet the entire ride) and shuttle bus. first thing that happens when we arrive to kuta is that 2 guys that were friends appereantly ( a guard and a cab driver) was offering us a ride to the hotel and tried to tell us their was just way to long to walk.. luckily we got rescued by another couple and were set of to discover kuta by our own. after that more salesman tried to sell us things and the weather didnt change for the better. however a decent first day of kuta i shall not complain that much as i do in the video but overall i was still happy. i was probably to relaxed after leaving gili air so i wasnt used to the high tempo in kuta.. anyways hope you guys enjoy! ******************** BACKGROUND: IF YOU ARE NEW! Long queues to get foreign exchange, not to borrow money

02:02
Night scene near the Ang Mo Kio Hub around Jan 21, 2014. I notice long queues at this pawnshop every evening whenever I passed by to Ang Mo Kio Hub 2 minute-walk away. There are 3 licensed money-lending shops. A long queue is present at one of the 3 shops. Not for money changing but for money-exchange. The Malaysian ringgit has depreciated much more against the Singapore Dollar and so long queues are present at money-changers here to get more Malaysian Ringgit for shopping in Johor Baru for Chinese New Year on Jan 31, 2014. If you provide products or services that the customers want, you can generate income..

Barongsai Lion Dance CNY 2018 at BXC (Bintaro Exchange Lunar Love Festival)

10:53
Lion Dance (Tari Barongsay) celebrating Chinese New Lunar Year at 2018 in BXC (Bintaro Exchange Mal Park). Lion dance (simplified Chinese: 舞狮; traditional Chinese: 舞獅; pinyin: wǔshī) is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian countries in which performers mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume to bring good luck and fortune. The lion dance is usually performed during the Chinese New Year and other Chinese traditional, cultural and religious festivals. It may also be performed at important occasions such as business opening events, special celebrations or wedding ceremonies, or may be used to honour special guests by the Chinese communities. The Chinese lion dance is sometimes mistakenly referred to as dragon dance by most first timers. An easy way to tell the difference is that a lion is normally operated by just two dancers and has a tail, while a dragon is longer and needs many people holding a stick. Chinese lion dance fundamental movements can be found in Chinese martial arts.

#EUROat20: The euro makes it easy to shop

00:33
20 years ago, on 1 January 1999, 11 EU countries striving for one common single market fixed their exchange rates, adopted a shared monetary policy under the European Central Bank, and launched a new common currency on world financial markets: the euro. Three years later, euro notes and coins entered into circulation. Today the euro is the currency of 19 EU countries, over 340 million EU citizens and the second most important currency in the world. Euro notes and coins are tangible, every day reminders of the freedom, convenience and opportunities that the European Union makes possible. The euro makes it easy to shop. The euro makes it easier and cheaper to compare prices and shop abroad. A common currency supports a more transparent and competitive single market. Bali Temple SCAM! - Goa Gajah Temple, Elephant Cave

06:02
Goa Gajah Temple A temple in the heart of bali holds an incredible site of worship that's tainted with greed. On this episode we'll uncover the Bali temple scam. Goa Gajah, a temple located near the central town of Ubud Bali is a tourist hotspot. The name Goa Gajah translates to Elephant Cave but upon visiting the temple there are no elephants in sight. This name comes from a small elephant carving inside the sacred cave. The temple is nearly 4 miles or 6 kilometers from Ubud on the western side of Bedulu village. Upon arriving to the temple you will be swarmed by shop owners trying to sell you a sarong to wear while walking around the temple. Sarongs are mandatory to wear while visiting any temples in Bali. This used to be an ancient Buddhist temple but what’s left here are the remaining blocks that could be brought back to the temple. Larger sections of the temple still exist at the bottom of the ravine close by. Across from the buddhist temple are holy pools of water that were used by pilgrims to wash up before entering the cave to meditate. The pools are supposedly fed by holy water from under the ground. 7 Statues standing overtop of these pools represent the 7 great rivers of India. At this point in your tour of the grounds guides will start to lock onto you like a eagle stalking its prey. The guides have 2 different approaches to scam tourists. In my case when I visited a man approached near the pools and asked if I’d like a guided tour for “20”. In Bali everything is abbreviated into numbers usually between 1 and 100 which are short for a 1000. In this case 20 meant 20,000 rupiah. 20,000 rupiah is about a dollar 50. Basically anywhere you go you’ll see 10 for a breakfast sandwich 18 for a cherimoya it's their common way of communicating the price without saying thousand every time. So the guide asked guided tour for 20? I said sure and he started explaining the different areas of the temple. After the first few areas we went over to the cave. The cave is dark, small and not all that interesting on the inside, a typical meditation site like many of the others around Bali, except in a cave. The entrance though is awesome, the carvings in the stone are impressive, detailed and wacky. It is believed this worship site is over 1000 years old. The goa gajah temple itself was discovered then revealed to the public in 1923, then in 1954 the statue fountains and pool were discovered and painstakingly restored by archaeologists. So back to the scam story, after a quick look inside the dark cave the guide started to complain about how expensive it is to have 7 children. He took me over to some flat stone platforms started talking about how he lives here and how he sleeps on this hard stone floor. He then started complaining how he doesn’t have any other job, the temple doesn’t pay him, and once again how his 7 children are so expensive to raise. I couldn’t help but think that maybe he should have been responsible with his actions and bought some contraception vs. complain to every tourist the walks in the door, and make it seem like his kids are tourists responsibility. I grew tired of his complains and presented him with the “20” or 20,000 rupiah. He gasped at me and demanded 20 US dollars. I was taken back, first off I’m not America so I don’t have US dollars and secondly I knew this was a scam considering the entrance fee into the temple was 15,000 rupiah or a dollar ten US. For those of you wondering the guided tour lasted 10 - 15 minutes which if his scam proves successful he’d be making around $100 US an hour. Now if we look at the average monthly income in Bali, it's around $200 US. After his ridiculous demand I said no 20,000 rupiah, he proceeded to change his tone from being a victim to being aggressive and angry. He threatened to get security if we don’t pay. I gave him 40,000 rupiah and said that’s all I had. He once again he threatened to call security and I said “go call em” and started walking away. The second he realized he wasn’t getting another dollar from me he swooped in on some new tourists who just walked into the temple area. Now there are actually two different versions of this scam. Some people will refuse to take him up on his offer of the guided tour, he’ll then just follow the tourists around explaining the areas as they go through the temple. He’s like a pesky fly you can’t get rid of except once he notices people start to head for the exit he’ll demand 200,000 rupiah or 15 US dollars. Once again if denied he’ll threaten to call security. The Pavilion Hotel Kuta (Bali, Indonesia) are liars!

00:33
Please, avoid this place!!! Here is not safety for you money! We have booked a room at this hotel for 18 nights. At first everything was not bad, but we immediately felt all disadvantages which you have already written. This is a low wi-fi signal, terrible cleaning of rooms. I watched stuff changes bed linens, trampling it their feet. Floor they do not wash. The plumbing remained dirty. I have a video of this cleaning. Soon I'll post it on youtube. But all these disadvantages are nothing compared to what happened us 4 days after the check in. On June 15, we have lossed of part of our cash in the closed safebox. After the exchange of currencies sum of money was correct. On June 13 stuff cleaned our room, whereas we were outside and did not follow this process, as we trusted them. We were robbed of the stuff of this hotel!!! It was from the safe in our room, 4,000,000 IDRs and 450 USD were missing. Why are we sure that this did stuff: 1. Our lifestile is sportive. We could not spend these sums of money or lose it unnoticed for ourselves as a result of a nightlife. It's impossible. 2. The principle of the work of safebox. You close the lock handle and enter the password, which only you know. But if you forget the password, you ask for help for stuff. He opens the safe with the usual metallic key! And for clean old code that you put, he needs to enter a technical code. If he does not do this, the safe handle closes, and the code remains the same. Finally, this safebox can open for of the hotel team, and it will pass unnotice

INDONESIA: CURRENCY PLUNGES TO A RECORD LOW

03:35
English/Nat Indonesia's currency went into free fall within minutes of the start of trading on Thursday, despite sweeping reforms enacted by President Suharto to arrest the nation's economic crisis. At one point the hapless currency slumped as low as 14-and-a-half-thousand rupiah to the U-S dollar - a record low. Money changers and banks were besieged on Thursday morning, with people cashing-in their U-S dollars at a record exchange rate. Ordinary Indonesians thought it too good an opportunity to miss and flocked to exchange whatever U-S currency they could. The Indonesian currency has lost about 83 per cent of its value since a currency crisis hit the region in July. Dealers said the rupiah was sold off in exchange for dollars, which are desperately needed by Indonesian companies to service massive foreign debt loads. They said U-S investment banks also aggressively bought the dollar following concerns over debt and who might eventually become the successor to President Suharto. At Citybank in Jakarta, hoards of people lined-up to try and make large profits from the crisis. Only at certain banks in Indonesia do people have the opportunity to open U-S dollar accounts, and these are only within reach of the middle class. Security companies and banks all over the capital have been moving truck loads of cash due to the demand being placed by money changers and the public. On Wednesday night the men given the task of sorting-out the economy held a press conference to explain to reporters the new reforms Suharto has initiated. The Economic and Financial Resilience Council issued a statement that their first meeting had reviewed steps required to effectively implement the first stage of the program of economic and financial reform. SOUNDBITE: (English) "President Suharto has given directions on how to implement the whole programme." SUPER CAPTION: Tunky Ariwibowo, Minister of Trade & Industry The group consisting of the ministers of finance and trade, the central bank governor and Suharto's special economic advisor, warned not to expect all the measures to happen instantly. Protesters in the capital on Thursday, however, want immediate action. Many of them say that's the only way the economy can be saved. Police said the pair, one of them a security guard, saw a suspicious-looking man with a white plastic bag near the entrance to the Sari Club in Bali's Kuta resort area just prior to the bombing. They denied reports that the two had been arrested but added that at least 47 people had been questioned. The second man was the brother of a man whose identification card was found at the scene of the blast, intelligence officers said on condition of anonymity. Police also announced that traces of C-4 plastic explosive were found at the scene. Indonesia's intelligence service has joined forces with foreign agencies in the investigation. Authorities said all indications were that the attack had been well planned and required expertise in handling high-tech explosives. They admitted that finding the perpetrators was a complicated task and was outside the ability of local hands. It's widely believed that the al-Qaida terror network and its local allies were responsible for the bombing. Indonesia has come under mounting international pressure to crackdown on Islamic militants on the island. The government had previously insisted there was no threat of violent extremism on its soil, despite US pressure to launch a crackdown. Meanwhile, there are fears that the attack may have harmed Indonesia's tourism and economy. Indonesian stocks have plummeted since the blast and the currency has slumped despite central bank intervention. How to get Visa on Arrival and Taxi at Bali Airport (Denpasar Airport)

01:28
How to get your Visa on Arrival at Bali International Airport / Denpasar Airport. Don't go through immigration straight away - go to the Visa on Arrival counter and pay US$25 (this is the current amount). You can pay in your local currency - they will accept most currencies but it's faster if you have US dollars. Then go through immigration. To get a taxi - go to the Taxi Service counter and tell them where you're going - they'll write down the price for you and you will be asked either to pay at the counter or directly to your driver.

RUPIAH MELEMAH LAGI? Rupiah Kembali Melemah Diakhir Perdagangan Hari Ini

03:11
Selamat datang diChannel kami.
