The Ultimate Introduction to Web Scraping and Browser Automation
Whenever you need to import data from an external website, hopefully they provide an API and make your life easy. But in the real world, that's not always the case. There are numerous reasons why you might want to get data from a web page or multiple web pages, and there's no API in sight, and in that case you're going to need to fall back onto Web Scraping and Browser Automation. In this screencast I'm going to give a high level overview of how to scrape websites, then cover five different scenarios, in increasing difficulty, for practical web scraping. There is a massive amount of information in this screencast and I'm going to straight up bombard you with it, but if you can make it until the end I guarantee you will come out knowing how to scrape websites with the best of them. As always, you can hit me up on twitter @AlwaysBCoding with questions, comments, to argue about programming, or to drop a suggestion for which topics I should cover next.

Automate Data Extraction – Web Scraping, Screen Scraping, Data Mining
Extract data from unstructured sources with Automate. Learn more: https://www.helpsystems.com/product-lines/automate/data-scraping-extraction Modern businesses run on data. However, if the source of the data is unstructured, extracting what you need can be labor-intensive. For example, you may want to pull information from the body of incoming emails, which have no pre-determined structure. Especially important for today’s enterprises is gleaning data from the web. Using traditional methods, website data extraction can involve creating custom processing and filtering algorithms for each site. Then you might need additional scripts or a separate tool to integrate the scraped data with the rest of your IT infrastructure. Your busy employees don’t have time for that. Any company that handles a high volume of data needs a comprehensive automation tool to bridge the gap between unstructured data and business applications. Automate’s sophisticated data extraction, transformation, and transport tools keep your critical data moving without the need for tedious manual tasks or custom script writing. YOW! Data 2016 Natalia Rümmele - Automating Data Integration with Machine Learning
The world of data is a messy and unstructured place, making it difficult to gain value from data. Things get worse when the data resides in different sources or systems. Before we can perform any analytics in such a case, we need to combine the sources and build a unified view of the data. To handle this situation, a data scientist would typically go through each data source, identify which data is of interest, and define transformations and mappings which unify these data with other sources. This process usually includes writing lots of scripts with potentially overlapping code – a real headache in the everyday life of a data scientist! In this talk we will discuss how machine learning techniques and semantic modelling can be applied to automate the data integration process. Natalia is a data scientist in the data platforms group at Data61, CSIRO. She is passionate about social network analysis, web mining and machine learning with specialization on data mining and link prediction. Her experience includes working on data intensive projects in Ukraine, Austria, Japan and Australia. For more on YOW! Data, visit http://data.yowconference.com.au

Automating Data Calculations and Analysis Using Do While Loop Macro
If you wish to automate data calculations and analysis you can use a 'do while' loop macro. Of course, you can do multiple things like copying and pasting in another worksheet in the looping process. You use the do while loop when you know the starting point but are not sure of the last data entry point. Therefore you need to define a starting point, a condition that must be met for the loop to perform its job and an increment in the value of the initialized point or starting point like a row or column value. Looping processes are important for any kind of automation. Another looping form is the 'for next' loop that works very efficiently if you know the starting and end points like for example at which row you wish to start the calculations and which row you wish to end the process.

Guided Deep List: Automating the Generation of Epidemiological Line Lists from Open Sources
Guided Deep List: Automating the Generation of Epidemiological Line Lists from Open Sources Saurav Ghosh (Virginia Tech) Prithwish Chakraborty (Virginia Tech) Bryan Lewis (Virginia Tech) Maia Majumder (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Emily Cohn (Boston Children's Hospital) John Brownstein (Harvard Medical School) Madhav Marathe (Virginia Tech) Naren Ramakrishnan (Virginia Tech) Real-time monitoring and responses to emerging public health threats rely on the availability of timely surveillance data. During the early stages of an epidemic, the ready availability of line lists with detailed tabular information about laboratory-confirmed cases can assist epidemiologists in making reliable inferences and forecasts. Such inferences are crucial to understand the epidemiology of a specific disease early enough to stop or control the outbreak. However, construction of such line lists requires considerable human supervision and therefore, difficult to generate in real-time. In this paper, we motivate Guided Deep List, the first tool for building automated line lists (in near real-time) from open source reports of emerging disease outbreaks. Specifically, we focus on deriving epidemiological characteristics of an emerging disease and the affected population from reports of illness. Guided Deep List uses distributed vector representations (ala word2vec) to discover a set of indicators for each line list feature. This discovery of indicators is followed by the use of dependency parsing based techniques for final extraction in tabular form. We evaluate the performance of Guided Deep List against a human annotated line list provided by HealthMap corresponding to MERS outbreaks in Saudi Arabia. We demonstrate that Guided Deep List extracts line list features with increased accuracy compared to a baseline method. We further show how these automatically extracted line list features can be used for making epidemiological inferences, such as inferring demographics and symptoms-to-hospitalization period of affected individuals. Automated Software Defect Prediction Using Machine Learning
Software code is composed of several components (e.g., several Java classes). Testing all these components can be a very expensive task. If we know which components are likely to be defective, we can concentrate testing on these components, increasing the chances of finding software defects while reducing testing effort. The task of software defect prediction is concerned with predicting which software components are likely to be defective, helping to increase testing cost-effectiveness. In this talk, I will show how software defect prediction can be performed by using automated machine learning approaches. I will also go through some important issues to be considered when using such automated approaches.

Databite No. 106: Virginia Eubanks
Virginia Eubanks speaks about her most recent book Automating Inequality: How High-Tech Tools Profile, Police, and Punish the Poor. Eubanks systematically shows the impacts of data mining, policy algorithms, and predictive risk models on poor and working-class people in America. The book is full of heart-wrenching and eye-opening stories, from a woman in Indiana whose benefits are literally cut off as she lays dying to a family in Pennsylvania in daily fear of losing their daughter because they fit a certain statistical profile. The U.S. has always used its most cutting-edge science and technology to contain, investigate, discipline and punish the destitute. Like the county poorhouse and scientific charity before them, digital tracking and automated decision-making hide poverty from the middle-class public and give the nation the ethical distance it needs to make inhuman choices: which families get food and which starve, who has housing and who remains homeless, and which families are broken up by the state. In the process, they weaken democracy and betray our most cherished national values. Virginia Eubanks is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University at Albany, SUNY. In addition to her latest book, Automating Inequality: How High-Tech Tools Profile, Police, and Punish the Poor, she is the author of Digital Dead End: Fighting for Social Justice in the Information Age and co-editor, with Alethia Jones, of Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around: Forty Years of Movement Building with Barbara Smith. For two decades, Eubanks has worked in community technology and economic justice movements. Today, she is a founding member of the Our Data Bodies Project and a Fellow at New America. Joining her to discuss data-based discrimination are powerhouses Alondra Nelson and Julia Angwin. Alondra Nelson is president of the Social Science Research Council and professor of sociology at Columbia University. A scholar of science, technology, and social inequality, she is the author most recently of The Social Life of DNA: Race, Reparations, and Reconciliation after the Genome. Her publications also include Body and Soul: The Black Panther Party and the Fight against Medical Discrimination; Genetics and the Unsettled Past: The Collision of DNA, Race, and History; and Technicolor: Race, Technology, and Everyday Life. Julia Angwin is an award-winning investigative journalist at the independent news organization ProPublica. From 2000 to 2013, she was a reporter at The Wall Street Journal, where she led a privacy investigative team that was a Finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in Explanatory Reporting in 2011 and won a Gerald Loeb Award in 2010. Her book, Dragnet Nation: A Quest for Privacy, Security and Freedom in a World of Relentless Surveillance, was published by Times Books in 2014. In 2003, she was on a team of reporters at The Wall Street Journal that was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in Explanatory Reporting for coverage of corporate corruption. She is also the author of “Stealing MySpace: The Battle to Control the Most Popular Website in America” (Random House, March 2009).

José Manuel Ortega - Python tools for webscraping
PyData Madrid 2016 Most of the talks and workshop tutorials can be found here: https://github.com/PyDataMadrid2016/Conference-Info If we want to extract the contents of a website automating information extraction, often we find that the website does not offer any API to get the data you need and It is necessary use scraping techniques to recover data from a Web automatically. Some of the most powerful tools for extracting the data in web pages can be found in the python ecosystem. Introduction to webscraping WebScraping is the process of collecting or extracting data from web pages automatically. Nowdays is a very active field and developing shared goals with the semantic web field, natural language processing, artificial intelligence and human computer interaction. Python tools for webscraping Some of the most powerful tools to extract data can be found in the python ecosystem, among which we highlight Beautiful soup, Webscraping, PyQuery and Scrapy. Comparison between webscraping tools A comparison of the mentioned tools will be made, showing advantages and disadvantages of each one, highlighting the elements of each one to perform data extraction as regular expressions, css selectors and xpath expressions. Project example with scrapy Scrapy is a framework written in python for extraction automated data that can be used for a wide range of applications such as data mining processing. When using Scrapy we have to create a project, and each project consists of: 1.Items: We define the elements to be extracted. 2.Spiders: The heart of the project, here we define the extract data procedure. 3.Pipelines: Are the proceeds to analyze elements: data validation, cleansing html code Outline Introduction to webscraping(5 min) I will mention the main scraping techniques 1.1.WebScraping 1.2.Screen scraping 1.3.Report mining 1.4.Spiders Python tools for webscraping(10 min) For each library I will make and introduction with a basic example. In some examples I will use requests library for sending HTTP requests 2.1. BeautifulSoup 2.2. Webscraping 2.2. PyQuery Comparing scraping tools(5 min) 3.1.Introduction to techniques for obtain data from web pages like regular expressions, css selectors, xpath expressions 3.2.Comparative table comparing main features of each tool Project example with scrapy(10 min) 4.1.Project structure with scrapy 4.2.Components(Scheduler,Spider,Pipeline,Middlewares) 4.3.Generating reports in json, csv and xml formats

Data Entry Automation - Aitomation
Data entry Automation is the process in which data entry work is automated with the help of bots. The bot performs the same actions as the individual previously doing so As a general,if you see.Data enry automation is all what we need today in all workplaces. In offices, there is a lot of data that is entered in systems daily. A data entry worker has to go through all files to access data which can be very tiring Time consumption is a big problem that is attached with data enrty. Which can of course lead workers to do errors. Automation dealt with this issue by automating such tasks which saved time. And In so doing, they came across these findings. Almost all employees spend 1 -3 hours daily for some redundant and repetitive work such as looking up data and copy pasting it. There was no proper way of handling errors. All of this was time consuming, frustrating for employees and with so many errors it was very inefficient. Whereas aitomation do it with simple clickable executable file to automate all of their tasks. There are many benefits of data entry automation like there will be no human errors There will be no excessive time consumption in data entry And since data entry is automated so you will no longer need data entry workers so this will be cost saving as well. Main goal of data entry automation is to streamline the process in a way that all human resource is used to optimize the process rather than slow it. Make sure there are checks at various steps to make sure there are no errors. To automate all of the tasks at hand from manual to data entry automation.
