GlobalFoundries plant gets $55M capital investment

00:32
ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (AP) -- Officials say the Vermont computer chip manufacturing plant now owned by GlobalFoundries has received a $55 million capital infusion that is increasing plant output by 15 percent. Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin and officials with GlobalFoundries announced the changes Wednesday at the Essex Junction facility. The changes include the conversion of more than 50 temporary jobs into permanent positions. The "Uplift" project that was carried out this year added new and upgraded equipment at the plant that is used to make computer chips. The GlobalFoundries plant makes electronic components that can be found in many consumer electronic devices. GlobalFoundries announced in July that it had completed its purchase of IBM's microchip plants in Vermont and New York.

How to Raise Venture Capital | Entice Investors to Fund Your Startup Idea

05:34
Do you want 100% of a company that makes $100,000 a year? Or would rather own 50% of a $10 million company? ►►Subscribe here to learn more of my secret SEO tips: https://goo.gl/ScRTwc Find me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/neilkpatel/ Read more on my blog: https://neilpatel.com/blog Of course, you want to own 50 percent of a company that makes $10 million a year. You know what the difference is? Venture capital. Today, I'm going to share with you how to raise venture capital. See, over my lifespan, I've raised more than $20 million. That may not seem like a lot. It's because I've learned that you shouldn't raise more than you need. Sure, some people raise hundreds of millions of dollars and then their company fails and the VCs take the whole thing. The key is with venture capital is to not raise too much, just raise a little bit more than you need. The reason I say a bit more is because things always go wrong. You may think, oh, I just need this much money, and then things will go right, I can do this and that, but things always go wrong. always add some padding. Now here's the thing that most people don't tell you about venture capital. When I first started off, I would go to VCs and pitch them like here's my idea; it's cool, it's the next best thing since sliced bread. You have to invest. And you know what they said? Oh, cool yeah, I'm interested, let us think about it, and we'll get back to you. You know what they did? They never got back. Why? Because I didn't build a relationship with them. See, venture capital is all about who you know. It's not about going out there and just raising money from random people. It's really about raising money from the right people. And what I learned about venture capital is when you build up a relationship and you get to know people, they're much more comfortable giving you money. Why? Because the idea they invested in, and they see this, is probably not going to be the idea that your company ends up with. Ideas change over time. What you first start with is rarely what you end up with. Things pivot and adapt. So people invest in those that they know. Twitter started out as Odeo. Odeo was a podcast company, and it wasn't working. Then they came up with Twitter. Podcasting. Twitter. Do you see the resemblance? I don't. The investors didn't either. But they understand ideas change. So, go to events like TechCrunch, they have conferences. Who are at the TechCrunch events? Investors. Mashable has meetups. Who are at those kinds of events? Investors. Before you pitch them, you have to get to know them first. That's the biggest mistake entrepreneurs make. People go and try to raise money, which never really happens, from random people that they don't know. And it usually, in most cases, ends up in disaster. You need to create a deck. There's a lot of amazing decks. If you go to SlideShare, Dave Mcclure once released a deck that shows you how to raise venture capital. I understand technology's changed, but the same pitch that worked back then works now. If you follow these steps, you will be better off, and you should have an easier shot at raising money. If you're not passionate, you're probably not going to get money. If you don't have a co-founder, again, it's going to be hard to raise money. VC's know you're not going to be able to do everything. If you're a business person, find an engineer. If you're an engineer, find a marketer or a design or a product person. You want to have at least two or more co-founders. Now that you've got your co-founders, you have to pitch a big idea. Ventur Capitalists are looking for the next Uber, Airbnb, eBay, Google, Microsoft; you get the point. Create something that's huge. They'd rather have you swing big and lose money than not take any risk at all. They don't want you to create a company that does $20 million a year and sells for $50 million. It doesn't do much for them. So go after a big idea, or no one's going to give you money. After you raise the Venture Capital, you should always be fundraising. Before your money runs out, raise more money. You want to have a healthy cash reserve, or else you're going to have a much harder time raising money. If you ever tried raising money or struggled out there, just leave a comment below, and I'll tell you what you did wrong. I hope this video helps you. If you liked it, please subscribe to this channel, like the video, share it, let other people know about it.

The 4 Most Important Financial Metrics

07:57
Financial metrics are the key numbers that you can focus on in financial statements. There are three financial statements, the balance sheet, the income statement and the cash flow that we like to look at to find important metrics. http://bit.ly/2xOCmRl Were going to look at some of the most important financial metrics that you as investors can use to evaluate a company. The first important number we look at on the balance sheet is liquidity. Can the company you’re looking at really cover everything that they need to cover in the next year? Or have they somehow overloaded themselves with short term debt and obligations that they could really run out of cash in the next year? In order to evaluate this, we want to look at the current ratio. Essentially it is a measure of working capital. It compares the current assets, which are assets that can be turned into cash in the next year, with current liabilities, which are obligations that have to be paid in the next year. What you want to look for when evaluating a company is a 2:1 ratio of liquidity to debt. Some companies are very well run that have a lower ratios than that, because they are controlling their cash very well, or they are in an industry that isn’t growing fast so they don’t need as much liquidity. These companies work their capital down so they don’t need as much cash on hand all the time and they can give that money to their shareholders. You will know that these companies are very well run because, they are really big companies. Most companies, particularly smaller companies need at least a 2:1 ratio between current assets and current liabilities. That’s a great measure of liquidity. We call that the liquidity metric. The Solow Model and the Steady State

07:10
Remember our simplified Solow model? One end of it is input, and on the other end, we get output. What do we do with that output? Either we can consume it, or we can save it. This saved output can then be re-invested as physical capital, which grows the total capital stock of the economy. There's a problem with that, though: physical capital rusts. Think about it. Yes, new roads can be nice and smooth, but then they get rough, as more cars travel over them. Before you know it, there are potholes that make your car jiggle each time you pass. Another example: remember the farmer from our last video? Well, unless he's got some amazing maintenance powers, in the end, his tractors will break down. Like we said: capital rusts. More formally, it depreciates. And if it depreciates, then you have two choices. You either repair existing capital (i.e. road re-paving), or you just replace old capital with new. For example, you may buy a new tractor. You pay for these repairs and replacements with an even greater investment of capital. We call the point where investment = depreciation the steady state level of capital. At the steady state level, there is zero economic growth. There's just enough new capital to offset depreciation, meaning we get no additions to the overall capital stock. A further examination of the steady state can help explain the growth tracks of Germany and Japan at the close of World War II. In the beginning, their first few units of capital were extremely productive, creating massive output, and therefore, equally high amounts available to be saved and re-invested. As time passed, the growing capital stock created less and less output, as per the logic of diminishing returns. Now, if economic growth really were just a function of capital, then the losers of World War II ought to have stopped growing once their capital levels returned to steady state. But no, although their growth did slow, it didn't stop. Why is this the case? Remember, capital isn't the only variable that affects growth. Recall that there are still other variables to tinker with. And in the next video, we'll show two of those variables: education (e) and labor (L). Together, they make up our next topic: human capital. Value Investing Framework (part 1) - Curreen Capital

04:40
Value investor Christian Ryther, shares strategic investment advice and how to quickly find the best stocks for long-term investing. Part one of six videos from a presentation to NYC-based investors from the Corner of Berkshire and Fairfax. Filmed on September 19, 2015. --------------------- At Curreen Capital, we are passionate about making smart long-term investments to make you more money. Since the fund was launched in June 2013, investors have seen their investment grow significantly - easily outpacing both the S&P 500 and MSCI World indexes. We consider these two indices to be great investment options for long-term investors, so any stock investment fund must be able to beat them over time. Curreen Capital's performance continues to demonstrate that our investment strategy is sound and delivers real results for investors. --Curreen Capital Investment Strategy-- We are a concentrated global small cap value fund in the Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, Joel Greenblat tradition, and our investments meet three key criteria: 1) Excellent businesses 2) Exceptional management 3) Undervalued securities. Our fund invests in 5-15 positions which meet all three criteria, and we hold cash when we cannot identify investments that meet our criteria. Christian Ryther founded Curreen Capital Management in June 2013. Previously, he was the sole analyst at NeuStrada Capital, a $250m fund affiliated with Farallon Capital Management from 2010 to 2013. From 2008 to 2010, he served as an analyst at Principled Capital Management, also a Farallon-affiliated fund. http://www.curreencapital.com twitter: @curreencr ------------------------ Go Cart (Electronic Medium) by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1300006 Artist: http://incompetech.com/

I've always wanted to say that. I'm going to talk to you about kind of like our mission here. I know I've probably said this before, but I've finally wrote it down and I was really clear on it, and it was some pretty cool numbers. So I'm excited to share it with you guys. So number one, I want to help reach 100,000 about real estate investing, so about real real estate investing. I want to tell 100,000 people what it's like to really invest, really find properties, really fix and flip them, et cetera. So that's pretty cool. Two, I want to make investors $2 million dollars this. I want to make you guys, not us, I want to make you guys $2 million dollars this year. How did I come up with that? I'm a crazy man. No, so 100 deals in the year, average of 20K profit, $20,000, and it can be 30, it can be 40, it can be 15, whatever. You know, average, so that equals $2 million. So you could be one of those guys, right? I want to help three people on my team get to six figures this years. Not only with us, but with investments or other things that they do. I want to make agents, real estate agents, because we buy a lot of properties on market, I want to make real estate agents $1,000 a day, $365,000 this year I want to make real estate agents, okay? So that's my little social mission, I want to do this by the end of the year, so December 31 2018, I want this to be done, and I will do a video update telling you once we've achieved it. So if you guys want to be a part of it, if you want to learn a little bit more about us, hit up your boy. I'm learning that subscribing is important, so subscribe. Often, these differences simply come down to each venture firm’s investment thesis — the internal rules that guide the partnership’s investment decisions. We talk with Rory O’Driscoll about what components can make up a VC’s investment thesis, how Scale Venture Partners shaped its own, and why it’s one of the most important things you should know when talking to a VC. Joe: They always say, 'You need money to make money' but my philosophy is, 'If you can't do deals with no money, you sure aren't going to make money with money." You need to learn how to make money with no money, and by that, I mean no credit, no cash and not using other people's investment funds. Joe: You're going to use seller financing instead, so essentially you are using other people's money, but you're not using a bank's money or investor money. Joe: There are new issues with the Dodd-Frank Act and some other things like that, i.e. the S.A.F.E. Act, that make it a little more difficult to do private money these days. It's still possible and still can be profitable but I would suggest that as you're getting started, that you learn how to do it with no money. Joe: You're going to be making mistakes as you go through this process. Even if you have me as a mentor, you're still going to make mistakes. That's one of the ways that I teach this -- I teach you to take action on certain things, so I know that you're going to make mistakes on those things. I'm not TRYING to make you make mistakes, but you're going to if you follow through with this process the way I teach it. Joe: Those mistakes will teach you much more than anything else can possibly do. But if you do deals where a mistake means that you have to file bankruptcy or it damages your credit or it means you lose a wad of cash, that's not an acceptable way to do business, so instead, learn how to do this process with no money and get it going that way. Joe: If you want to find investment capital, as far as private money and hard money loans, hard money loans don't make much sense -- there are very few situations where it'll pencil out. I can show you that -- I have people that argue with me on this all the time, but if you sit down and look at the numbers on this, most of the time, hard money doesn't make sense, plus you need dramatic under market values to make it make sense. Joe: If you're looking for dramatically under market value properties that you're going to wholesale, which means flip them without buying them and without paying for them and make a chunk of money (and that's a viable to way to do it as well and I teach you how to do that) you have to buy that property dramatically under market value in order to find a cash buyer for it, and those types of sellers are going to be a lot fewer and farther between. Joe: We'll come across twenty viable seller financed deals before we come across one dramatically under market value property, so if you're doing wholesale deals, we're doing twenty times as many deals as you simply because we can do deals that you can't do because you need it to be dramatically under market value. Joe: You're looking for desperate motivated sellers. We're looking for people that just want to sell their property. Yes, they're motivated -- they want to sell their properties, I consider them to be motivated sellers -- but they're not desperate, or, they're in a situation where they can't drop their price on the property -- they can't leave a ton of money on the table. Joe: So if you learn how to do this properly, you'll go after the right type of lead, there will be plenty of them and you won't have to leave a lot of deals on the table like every wholesaler or rehabber or short sale dealer that I deal with or have known has had to do. I hope that helps. Thanks.
