Agnes Scott Founder's Day

02:42
Founder's Day was first observed by the campus community on February 22nd, 1918. It was originally started as a campus holiday to honor the memory of George Washington Scott, born on February 22, 1829 - a date celebrated in the US at that time as the birthday of President George Washington. The students would come to a festive dinner dressed in colonial era clothing and then would go to the gymnasium to dance a minuet and then there would be general dancing. This tradition continued until the 1950s. This video of the costumed students was filmed in the early 1930s.
